Local and Online Veterinary Compounding Pharmacies
As you may already know, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations describe specific circumstances under which veterinarians, or pharmacists upon prescription of veterinarians prescription, are legally permitted to compound drug products for extra label use in animals. In which case, any veterinary compounding pharmacies, either local or online, should basically follow the same rules and regulations implemented by the FDA. Under these regulations, compounding should only be performed using specific FDA-approved animal or human drugs and only when no approved use of an approved animal or human drug is available in order to appropriately treat the diagnosed condition. Though, there are several occasions that no FDA-approved animal or human drug is available for use in order to relieve the animals suffering or prevent the animals death. In these situations, veterinarians may find it necessary to compound, or prescribe for a pharmacist to compound, from non-FDA-approved substances to satisfy the requirements of good veterinary medical practice.
